This will be our second Big Brew. It is happening May 5th 11 - 7 at Green Acres Farm in North Smithfield. $10 bucks gets you a souvenier glass and all the homebrew you can drink. It just so happens to be Cinco De Mayo as well so bring your sombreros and get ready for some Mexican Stouts and Mexican Lagers and a variety of all things homebrewed. Bring your brew gear as well if you want to brew a batch with some of your fellow members (please contact Alex if you plan to brew). Ming's Asian Street Food food truck will be on site. MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
We had a huge sure of memebrship renewal and first timers joining up. There were 35 people who committed to the club at the April meeting. You can join too at any time by filling out the application and bring your dues to the next meeting.

MEMBER OF THE MONTH
This month it's Zac Belanger - Zac moved up here from down south and jumped right in setting up an awesome vanilla bean buy and barrel buy from the distillery he used to work at. What a guy? Did I mention he's single. Click on the pic for the full write up! Congrats Zac!

Meredith: Has Brewed Before and this is her first RIBS meeting. A memebr of GPO - Girls Pint out.
Mary Alice: Never brewed herself but is interested. Also a member of GPO
Brian: Has been brewing for a while, likes all styles and found out about us through the OSHC
Keith: Favorite beer is an irish red and he comes to the club through Tessier's Hardware.
Chris: Working on a cider and is friends with Patrick and Molly.

- We presented a Step by step walk through of a typical extract brewday
- Also, a discussion of brewing techniques, ingredients and equipment
- And of course samples of various styles of homebrew were enjoyed by all

EDUCATION! - BEER's "REAL" HISTORY
- The "Archeology of Beer" - a talk on the real history of beer by Dr. Emily Macintosh.
- We learned about the evolution of beer from 7000bc China to present day
- Quite an eye opener to those of us who thought it started with just bread and water in a pot in Egypt

RIBS ACROSS THE US
We are going to work on an interactive"ish" map representing RIBS winning competition medals across the US. This will show our national presence and hopefully encourage the group to put themselves out there and target competitions in empty states. Obviously the goal will be to fill in the map!
